A one-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car in Leonora.

Officers from the major crash investigation section are investigating the crash which occurred in the mining town, about 230km north of Kalgoorlie, about 4.15pm on Thursday.

A police spokeswoman said the boy was walking in an unknown direction on Nambi Road before he was struck by a silver Holden Captiva, also driving in an unknown direction.

“The one-year-old male pedestrian received life threatening injuries and was declared deceased at scene,” she said.

The driver of the car — a 59-year-old woman — was uninjured.

She is assisting police with their investigation.
