A 22-year-old man has been charged over a fatal crash that claimed the lives of three people — including a newborn child — in WA’s remote Mid-West.

Five-week-old Levi, his mother Marrika Brockman, 33, and Marrika’s niece Gabrielle Brockman, 21, were killed when the Toyota HiLux they were passengers in rolled near Yalgoo on August 10.

Two months on from the fatal incident, a 22-year-old man from Newman has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death in circumstances of aggravation.

He was also charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm in circumstances of aggravation, relating to injuries sustained by two other male passengers.

The accused will appear before the South Hedland Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The party was returning home to Geraldton after attending a funeral in Meekatharra, a 535km journey, when they crashed on Geraldton–Mount Magnet Rd about 10.50pm.

Levi, who it is understood was being held by his mother in the back seat, and Gabrielle both died at the scene.

Mother-of-three Marrika, who has been remembered as a “proud” parent, died from her injuries in the hospital.

Hotel cleaner Gabrielle was said to be someone who was always smiling and laughing.

The incident was described at the time as “tragic” and “incomprehensible” by Mount Magnet Shire President Jim McGorman.

“They went to school here — my wife taught two of the girls involved in the incident, so it is quite close to a lot of us,” he told 7NEWS.

WA Premier Roger Cook also spoke on the tragedy, saying “it must have been a harrowing scene”.
