The man was standing on the ground as an operator lifted the load.

Paramedics raced to the site and pronounced him dead at the scene.

“We’re seeing far too many workplace serious accidents,” CFMEU state secretary Mick Buchan said.

“And now to have the sixth fatality for this year is an absolute disgrace and a burden on the industry.”

Workmates who witnessed the shocking incident say their colleague was well respected and they are heartbroken.

“It’s very important that they’re debriefed and they have those services that are there to provide mental health, first aid, just someone to talk to, to make sure that that you’ve got someone looking after your welfare after an event like that,” Buchan said.

The site remained closed on Wednesday and a WorkSafe investigation is underway.
