A 52-year-old man has died after he was struck by a car during what witnesses say was a violent rampage in Perth on Tuesday.

The pedestrian was hit by a silver Holden Commodore on Rose Ave in Bayswater shortly after 11am.

Police gave first aid to the injured man before he was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, where he died.

The driver, who police said had two kids in the car and is believed to have been carrying a blade, later crashed the Commodore into traffic lights on the corner of Railway Pde.

Earlier, the Commodore was allegedly being driven erratically and collided with a Ford Ranger on Skew Rd about 11am.

Witnesses said a man slashed all four of the Ranger’s tyres while another man hid inside.

“The guy in the silver Commodore got out with a machete and started threatening to kill him,” a witness said.

“He’s banging the machete on the driver’s window. He went around and stabbed all four tyres so he couldn’t leave.”

Tradies had to use bricks to defend themselves from threats made by the man, 7NEWS was told.

The Commodore driver is alleged to have driven away from the prang, before striking the pedestrian.

A man in his 30s has been taken into police custody and is being medically examined.

The two children in the suspect’s car were not harmed.

WA Police Inspector Jason Van Der Ende said authorities are working to establish a complete timeline of events.

“This matter is complex and will take some time to fully investigate,” he said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
