WA police say three men attempted to kill the older man at a village in Punjab, India but the gun misfired and he was left with a serious brain injury.

It will be alleged Sheetal actively sought the men to murder his father-in-law, in what police describe as a transnational conspiracy.

Punjabi police have arrested and charged three people with offences relating to the attack.

However, they have advised local authorities they would not seek extradition of the accused man from Australia.

Within weeks of the attack, the victim relocated to WA where police and a family violence team worked with relatives as investigations began.

Sheetal was arrested in early June and accused of breaching a family violence restraining order taken out by his estranged wife.

During this time, his father-in-law started receiving further death threats.

Sheetal was arrested again on Wednesday following what police said was an “extensive investigation”.

Sheetal did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear in the Stirling Gardens Court on July 24.
