A woman has died after she was swept off rocks at a remote beach on WA’s south coast.

The 40-year-old from Perth was visiting Salmon Beach near Esperance when disaster struck about 11am on Saturday.

She was not able to be revived after being pulled from the water.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

It’s not the first fatal incident at the beach, with Faycal Al Saidi swept off rocks at same location in 2020.

An inquest into his death found the tourist had been struck by a wave, causing him to fall.

He tried to get up but was hit by another wave before he could regain his footing and was swept from the rocks into the ocean. His body was never recovered.

The Deputy State Coroner was “satisfied beyond all reasonable doubt” that Al Saidi died on December 2, 2020, and that his death “was due to drowning”.

The latest incident comes amid a spate of drownings nationally over the festive season, a notoriously deadly period.

Mohammad Swapan, 44, and his 40-year-old wife Sabrina Ahmed were swimming at Conspicuous Beach, near Walpole, 430km south of Perth, in late December when tragedy struck.

Emergency services responded to reports three adults were in distress in the water before unsuccessful efforts were made to revive the pair.

A 42-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

On Monday, two people died when they were found unresponsive on the shoreline of a beach after their boat flipped in South Australia’s southeast.

Data from Royal Life Saving Australia (RSLA) shows there have been more than 40 drowning deaths since the start of the 2024-25 summer.
