Pet dog shot by police at Thornlie, Perth property

Police have been forced to shoot a dog during an incident in Perth’s southern suburbs.

A resident said she received a knock at the door on Wednesday afternoon but when she went to answer it, an officer had already jumped her fence into the backyard.

That is when the kelpie named Toby was shot in the face.

The pet was still able to move but there was a lot of blood.

Toby was bundled into the car and rushed to a vet to undergo emergency surgery.

7NEWS was told vets are searching for the bullet, which is believed to be lodged in the animal’s face.

“I don’t understand it. I don’t know why he shot him,” the upset owner told 7NEWS.

Police were visiting the property on an arrest warrant.
