“I noticed there was a scratch on my ankle, so I just looked down to have a little look and I noticed that there were three bite marks,” she said.
Alexander’s 17-year-old niece bandaged the leg while her daughter called triple-0.
An ambulance crew rushed Alexander to Joondalup Health Campus where she spent the night.
She was back at home on Tuesday and thankful for her family’s help.
Tiger snakes are one of the world’s deadliest reptiles and raise up like a cobra when confronted.
The advice to people who spot them is to walk away, and do not attempt to catch or trap the snake yourself.
For people who have been attacked, paramedics say bandaging from the extremities of the bitten limb up to the body to restrict movement is crucial.
It is also vital the patient stays still and help comes to them.
“We don’t want to move the patient to help, even in a remote setting,” St John WA first aid trainer Rondel Dancer said.
Alexander hopes her close call will serve as an important lesson for others.
“It’s a bit scary. I keep seeing that snake head in my head. Don’t think that’s going away in a hurry,” she said.
