An argument broke out and Sampson was struck in the face with a wine glass, police allege.

The glass left a gash down the right side of her face, narrowly missing her right eye.

“It’s devastating. It’s just changed... the course of her life going forward,” Sampson’s mum Marie Sampson told 7NEWS.

She underwent more than three hours of plastic surgery on Saturday and her recovery is expected to take months.

She is currently struggling to talk, will need to take time off work to recover and is nervous to leave the house.

“It’s pure evil. I just don’t understand how someone, especially another girl of her age that knows they’re so cautious about the way they look, that she could do that,” Marie said of the accused.

Sampson’s alleged attacker has been charged with unlawful wounding and will appear in court on September 4.

Sampson’s family say they want justice and hope her story will be a crucial warning for others.

“I think the system needs to change. I think they need to be protective more of the person who has been attacked,” Marie said.
