WA’s measles tally is continuing to rise after another case was reported to authorities on Thursday.

The latest alert issued by the Department of Health said the most recent case “likely contracted the disease while travelling interstate”, but did not clarify which State.

Between Monday and Thursday last week, the person visited four locations in Perth’s eastern suburbs while infectious.

Two of those were fast food drive-thru locations.

Anyone who attended the locations on the listed dates and times below should monitor for symptoms for seven to 18 days after date of exposure.

It takes about 10 days for the virus to develop. Early symptoms include fever, tiredness, cough, a runny nose and sore eyes.

A red, non-itchy rash usually appears three or four days later, starting on the face then spreading to the rest of the body.

Sixteen of the 17 cases statewide for 2025 have been reported since March 19.

The majority of these cases were related to an outbreak that made its way into two prisons and a regional hospital in the South West.

It is the largest outbreak in the State since 2019, when a cluster of 26 cases were recorded.

Measles is spread via airborne droplets, making it highly infectious. It can lead to serious complications including pneumonia and inflammation of the brain.

It is a vaccine preventable illness. Adults born before 1966 are considered immune, as they most likely had measles as a child before widespread vaccine rollout.

Adults aged between 40 and 60 are encouraged to check their immunisation status, as this group may not be fully vaccinated with two doses.

Immunisations are free, with the first dose recommended for infants aged 12 months and 18 months for the second.

There have so far been 64 recorded cases of measles nationwide for 2025.
