According to The Bureau of Meteorology unseasonal rain and thunderstorms are possible across western and central WA which will bring damaging winds and heavy rainfall. This could lead to flash flooding.

Meteorologist Jessica Lingard said, “today there is a large area of possibly severe thunderstorms for central and western parts of the state, with the main risks being heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts.”

“This system is expected to hang around through tomorrow as well, not clearing until we get into Thursday.”

The areas which will be hit the heaviest under the band of thunderstorms will range from Shark Bay down towards the central Wheatbelt.

These areas could get up to 30mm of rainfall.

“For the Perth metro area there is a chance that we could see some thunderstorms later today,” Ms Lingard said.

“They are going to be most likely through this afternoon and this evening, if you are in the eastern suburbs so in the hills, there is a chance that these thunderstorms could even be severe.

“There are no current severe weather warnings, or severe thunderstorm warnings across WA. However, this may change as we move through today.”

Ms Lingard said as warmth is added into the atmosphere more systems could develop through the metro area and the chance of thunderstorms will continue into tomorrow.

There are no immediate warnings for WA.
