A young man has died after becoming trapped under heavy machinery in outback Queensland.

Emergency services were called to a workplace on Richmond Woolgar Rd in Burleigh, about 500km west of Townsville, about 12pm Friday after reports a man had been seriously injured.

Paramedics and police arrived to find the man had sustained life-threatening injuries after he became trapped under heavy machinery.

The man was treated at the scene but died a short time later.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland have been notified about the incident and have launched an investigation with assistance of Queensland Police.
