Brumby’s Bakery is up for sale after recording a multimillion-dollar loss last year.

The once popular bakery’s parent company, Retail Food Group, released its financial results for the last year on Thursday, revealing it had lost $14.9 million in the 2024-2025 year.

The company recorded a $5.8 million net profit after tax the year prior.

In a letter to stakeholders, the group said a divestment process is underway for the bakery chain, but there were “no guarantees it will result in an acceptable offer”.

The company plans to focus on expanding other brands under the RFG umbrella, after revealing the long-term decline of the Brumby’s brand had cost the company $12.2 million last year.

Brumby’s Bakery started in Melbourne’s east in 1975. It quickly expanded across Australia and New Zealand.

It was acquired by Retail Food Group in 2007.

Retail Food Group looks after a number of other brands, including Gloria Jeans, Crust Gourmet Pizza and Donut King.
