Tim Wedlock: AEI Insurance Broking Group executive chairman dies in Nashville crash that injured three others

Respected Australian insurance executive Tim Wedlock has been identified as the pedestrian killed in a crash in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mr Wedlock, 58, the Executive Chairman of AEI Insurance Broking Group, died on August 1 after he and a number of other pedestrians were hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Broadway and 4th Avenue in the heart of the city’s tourist district.

Nashville police said the crash occurred about 12.30pm local time when an 87-year-old driver allegedly drove through a red light while the pedestrian crossing signal was illuminated.

Four pedestrians, including Mr Wedlock, were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, but the insurance executive died from his injuries shortly after arriving at hospital, The Tennessean reports.

In a statement released on Sunday, AEI Insurance Broking Group confirmed Mr Wedlock’s death and paid tribute to a man widely regarded as one of Australia’s most influential insurance brokers.

“AEI Insurance Broking Group is deeply saddened to advise that our Executive Chairman, Tim Wedlock, passed away on 1st August 2026 in Nashville, USA, after he and a number of other pedestrians were struck by a vehicle,” the company wrote.

“Tim spent 39 years with AEI, marking his 39th anniversary with the business the week before his passing. Over that time he built AEI into one of Australia’s most respected broking groups and established himself as one of the profession’s most recognisable industry figures.

“His service to the wider industry was extensive. A former President and Fellow of the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA), Tim contributed more than 20 years to NIBA committees and the National Board, and was a long-standing supporter of the Careers in Insurance initiative.

“Advancing the professionalism and integrity of broking was a cause he returned to throughout his career, and he was unfailingly generous with his time and energy to those entering it.”

AEI Managing Director and CEO, Noel Kelly said Mr Wedlock’s impact on both the company and broader industry would be long remembered.

“Tim was the cornerstone of AEI and a legend of this industry. Thirty-nine years in, he still had more energy than anyone in the room,” Mr Kelly said.

“He gave his time freely, to our people, to NIBA, to anyone who asked. We have lost a leader and a mentor but most of all we have lost a mate.

“Our thoughts are with Tim’s wife Prue, son Matt and daughter Ash, and the company asks that their privacy be respected at this time. Details of a service will be shared once confirmed.”
