AFL legend Ben Cousins has opened up about his time on reality TV show Dancing With The Stars, saying his experience served as a life reminder to not “play it safe”.

The former West Coast Eagles champion took to Instagram on Friday with a video to reflect on his time on the Channel 7 hit show.

The heartwarming video showed snippets of Cousins and his dancing partner Siobhan Power all smiles while they enjoyed their time on the show.

The 46-year-old revealed he did “fall in love” with the way all the pro dancers moved and admired the “freedom” they had when they danced.

“After no longer dancing for a living @dancingau I’ve had some time to look back at one of ‘The times of my life’!” the post was captioned.

“Never could I have imagined the places it took me, the people I met, the connection between my body and mind, the constant laughs - so grateful.

“Such a reminder for me in life to not play it safe... keep an open mind, try new things. I will live differently because of this experience.”

The father of two went on to thank everyone involved in the show, including Ms Power.

“To @siobhanlpower my incredible and patient dance partner... Thank you for walking me into your world and helping me discover a real passion ....and for your friendship,” he said.

Unfortunately, the duo didn’t make it past the semi-finals, but Cousins isn’t going to let that stop him from continuing his dancing journey.

“And finally... I continue to live by the presumption my best dancing is still ahead of me...” he said.
