An Australian mother has been praised by the internet for sticking up for her teenage daughter after a man made an inappropriate comment about her body at a cafe.
The mother and her daughter were in the process of purchasing lunch from Routley’s Bakery in the Victorian town of Torquay when another male customer made a comment to the young girl, saying what she ordered would go straight to her hips.
In a video on social media, the mum filmed the man while she confronted him about the wildly inappropriate comment.

“No,” the man said.
“So you’re not going to make any more comments about young girls’ bodies while they’re in a shop buying food?” she asked.
The mum then asked the man to repeat what he said to the teenager, who then admitted he’d made the comment but did not back down.
“I said, it’ll go straight to your hips . . . I wasn’t talking about her body.”
The man then went on the defensive, saying the mum does not have a sense of humour, before conceding he did not have daughters when asked.
“I’m glad that you don’t, because it’s actually a revolting comment to make to a young girl,” the mum said.
“I think you’re overprotective,” the man boldly retorted, following a half-hearted apology.
“You should be sorry and learn that when you’re out in public and someone’s buying food, you need not make a comment about young people’s bodies,” the mum clapped back.
“You’re a pig of a man who saw a young girl wearing workout gear and decided to make a comment about food that she was buying.”

The video has since gained more than 17,800 likes and almost 3000 comments, with many celebrities showing their support of the mum’s defence of her daughter.
“This is a public service. Thank you! 👏👏👏,” radio and TV star Myf Warhurst said.
Dr Kate Adams, owner of Bondi Vet and star of Real Housewives of Sydney, commented: “If you are overreacting… the whole internet is about to be overreacting. 👏👏👏 good on you.”
“👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Speak even if your voice shakes, thank you Mama Bear,” another comment said.
“As a male and a father to a daughter this guy makes my blood boil, well done for speaking up,” another said.
The mum has since issued a statement, saying she is “genuinely overwhelmed” by the “support, kindness, and messages of encouragement” she and her daughter have received since she posted the video.
“Many of you have shown concern for my daughter, and I want to reassure you — she is doing just fine,” the mum said.
“She is surrounded by love and protection, and is a strong young woman. While she is still maturing, she is already a fierce and courageous young human.
“And let me be very clear — I will always protect her, loudly and unapologetically, from anyone who even thinks about crossing that line.”
