Courtney Joelle: Woman deletes ‘princess treatment’ TikTok over online backlash and tradwife accusations

A woman’s video describing how she receives “princess treatment” when out for dinner with her husband has left the internet baffled.
American creator Courtney Joelle shared a TikTok that has triggered a tidal wave of commentary after she explained why she refuses to look at or talk to restaurant staff when on a date with her spouse.
“He opens (the car) door, walks me into the restaurant, opens the door and I stand and wait,” she explained.

“You are not gonna go up to the hostess and give the reservation name. You’re not gonna talk to her.
“This is not out of a, ‘I’m better than them, I don’t need to talk to them’, you’re just letting your husband lead and be masculine.

“He made the reservation, he’s taking you out.
“Let him do the logistics. You’re just being the princess.”
She went on to add that she doesn’t even order her own food.
“If the waiter addresses you first, I will simply just look at my husband and then my husband will order,” she said.
“You don’t need to over speak, over exert yourself. You can be feminine and soft and quiet.
“The most elegant, lovely women are often soft spoken and don’t over speak. They’re not loud.”
The since deleted video has been reshared thousands of times, with astounded TikTok users labelling Ms Joelle’s idea of princess treatment as “concerning” and “classist.”
“What she is describing is what I’m trained on to recognise in healthcare if I suspect trafficking/kidnapping/domestic violence victims,” one user wrote.
Another added: “It is classist. Like, to not engage with service workers at all, even eye contact? These are other human beings.”
The comment “(Is this) princess treatment or prisoner treatment” attracted more than 300,000 likes.
Ms Joelle has deactivated her account as of publishing.
