Nicole Kidman breaks silence on Keith Urban divorce after 19 years of marriage and admits she’s ‘free-falling’
Nicole Kidman has made a raw admission about life after Keith Urban, revealing she never expected her future to look like this.
Nicole Kidman has opened up about the uncertainty of life after her divorce from Keith Urban, admitting she feels like she is “free-falling” as she adjusts to a future she never expected.
The 59-year-old actress offered a rare insight into the breakdown of her 19-year marriage in an interview with British Vogue, revealing she is still grappling with the question: “Where am I going? And what’s next?”
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025, bringing almost two decades of marriage to an end.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.“I’m like, ‘OK, I didn’t expect this, I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now’,” she said.
“You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s … not.
“You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now … Strange.”
The Big Little Lies star admitted there had been moments when she felt “very fearful and deeply vulnerable”, but said she ultimately faced a choice over how she would move forward.
“And then at the same time (I’m) going, ‘Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope’,” she said.
Kidman and Urban’s divorce was finalised a little over three months after proceedings began, without the former couple having to fight their case in court.
According to court documents obtained by People, the pair agreed to waive child and spousal support and established a parenting plan for their daughters Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15.
It is not Kidman’s first experience navigating a highly publicised divorce, having split from Tom Cruise in 2001, but she said going through it again did not make the experience familiar.
It was “all new … every time!” she said.
Almost a year after her split from Urban, Kidman said she was still processing the upheaval and trying to embrace the uncertainty rather than allowing fear to dictate what comes next.
“I don’t overthink things and I’m probably not that analytical. I’m far more feeling-centred and I lead with my heart,” she said.
“I just go, ‘OK, what do I feel here? I’ll give it a go.’ It throws people, because I think they think I’ll be far more measured and I’m not.”
Kidman said she did not want to be “ruled by (her) head” and instead wanted to remain open to whatever came next.
“I’ve always wanted to live a well-examined life, so what does that entail? Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities,” she said.
The emotional year has also been a busy one professionally, with four Kidman projects released or slated for release in 2026.
She is currently starring in Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness and will reunite with Sandra Bullock for Practical Magic 2, which is due for release in September.
