Nicole Kidman’s erotic thriller Babygirl has released its first trailer and it is hot.

The film features Kidman as a high-powered chief executive who engages in an affair with a younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson.

Across the two-minute video, Romy (Kidman) and Samuel (Dickinson) appear to be playing games of dominance, subservience, and control.

Samuel tells Romy, “I think you like to be told what to do” and then later adds, “If we’re going to do this, we need to set some rules that you and I both agree on, starting with I tell you what to do and you do it”.

At one point, there’s a glass of milk that seems to represent something in their dynamic. It’s the most erotic a glass of milk has ever seemed.

The trailer is scored to the trilling bells of The Nutcracker, which has led at least one commenter on YouTube to suggest there may be a connection to Ivan Pavlov and his conditioning experiments with dogs and bells.

It’s a link the film hints at. The trailer opens with Romy observing Samuel tame a runaway dog and at the very end, he whispers to her, “good girl”.

The age and status between the two characters also seems to come into play over who really has one over the other.

She says to him, “You’re very young, I don’t want to hurt you,” but he’s not the least fussed about it, replying, “Hurt me? I think I have power over you. I could make one call and you lose everything. Does that turn you on when you say that?”.

Babygirl also stars Antonio Banderas and Sophie Wilde and was written and directed by Dutch filmmaker Halina Reign (Bodies Bodies Bodies).

The movie is set for a Christmas Day release in the US but has not been dated in Australia. A local distributor is yet to be confirmed.

The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival in August where Kidman won the best actress award for her performance.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t accept the accolade in person as she was informed after her arrival in the Italian city that her mother, Janelle, had died, and the actor had to turn around. A statement read aloud by Reijn at the ceremony included, “I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me and made me”.

Kidman’s recent onscreen credits include TV series The Perfect Couple, Expats and Lioness.

British actor Dickinson has had a run of breakout performances since 2021 in films including Triangle of Sadness, The King’s Man, See How They Run, Where the Crawdads Sing, The Iron Claw and miniseries A Murder at the End of the World.
