Rumours had been swirling for months and now a fourth Bridget Jones movie has been confirmed – and Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant will be returning as the messy but lovable Bridget and still-a-cad Daniel.
Joining them will be all-round legend Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor and The White Lotus and One Day star Leo Woodall.
The fourth movie will be based on author Helen Fielding’s book Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy with Fielding writing the screenplay. Filming is expected to start mid-year in London. Michael Morris (To Leslie, Better Call Saul) will direct.

Fielding killed off Mark in print in her 2013 sequel book but those who were unfortunate enough to have seen the critically derided 2016 Bridget Jones’ Baby will remember Mark was very much alive and dragged into a love triangle with Bridget and a character (Patrick Dempsey) so forgettable you’d struggle to find anyone who could recall his name.
In Mad About the Boy, Mark is killed by a landmine, leaving Bridget a widow.
The fourth movie may pick up four years after Bridget Jones’ Baby and Bridget is dating again. If the film remains faithful to the book, one of those paramours will be a 30-year-old man with speculation Woodall could be slated for that character.
The first Bridget Jones movie was released in 2001 and was a critical and commercial hit. It nabbed Zellweger an Oscar nomination. It made almost $US300 million at the box office.
