There are two trends in movie trailers.

The first is that there is now a trailer to the trailer, a five-second teaser at the start of the video that primes you for the next two and a half minutes.

Apparently, we are now at that point of human evolution where our attention spans are so low, that we now need a trailer to the trailer to the movie. God help us.

The second is that the trailers seem to give everything away so you feel as if you don’t even need to see the film itself.

But the Snow White story is so well-known, it may prove the exception to the annoyance. The task of this trailer is to give you a sense of what a live-action 2025 Snow White might be like, and whether it’s going to vibe with you.

There have been a few teasers before this, but this version of the trailer is the most comprehensive taste of the whole story, from how a kingdom of “fairness” devolved into one of tyranny under the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot).

We see the magic mirror, Snow White (Rachel Zegler) fleeing into the magical woods, meeting the seven CGI dwarves, and trying to take back the kingdom from the Evil Queen. We also glimpse the Queen in her disguise as the old woman who offers Snow White the poisoned apple.

The trailer suggests there will be a tussle over the definition of “fairest”, which the Queen might regard as physical beauty while Snow White (and, by default, the film) might consider as kind of heart.

The video is also the first time we’ve heard a snippet of “Waiting on a Wish”, a new song written by Benji Pasek and Justin Paul.

The film has been in development since 2016 when screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train) was in talks to pen the script. Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Barbie) later joined as a co-writer in 2021. Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) directed the movie.

Snow White is one of three upcoming Disney live-action films based on its animated classics. A Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, is in cinemas this month while a Lilo & Stitch remake is due for release in May.

Snow White will be released on March 20, 2025.
