British film and theatre star Erivo, 38, who will host Broadway’s Tony Awards in June, is nominated for an Oscar in the leading actress category for her role as bullied green witch, Elphaba, in the film adaptation of the hit musical.

She will compete against US actress Demi Moore, who is nominated for the body horror film The Substance, and Anora star Mikey Madison, who won the leading actress Bafta earlier this month.

Also in the running are Emilia Perez actress Karla Sofia Gascon and Brazilian star Fernanda Torres for her role in I’m Still Here.

US pop star and actress Grande, 31, is nominated in the supporting actress category for playing Glinda in Wicked.

The 2024 Oscars ceremony featured actor Ryan Gosling singing a rendition of I’m Just Ken from the Barbie film, which began with him serenading co-star Margot Robbie and ended in a full-blown sing-along with the film’s director Greta Gerwig and musicians Mark Ronson and Slash.
