The pair said in a joint statement at the time of their surprise split that they had been “blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife.”
Furness filed for divorce on May 23 after the pair reached an agreement behind the scenes. Furness reportedly paid $11.7 million (AU$18 million) to buy her ex-husband out of their glamorous New York City penthouse apartment.
While Jackman has made no public comment since, Furness hinted that the Wolverine star committed an act of “betrayal”, fuelling rumours that her former husband cheated on her with Sutton Foster, with whom he starred in The Music Man on Broadway in 2022.
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” Furness said in her first public statement since announcing their divorce.
“It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.
“This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage. I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose.
“It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.”
Furness’ divorce filing and emotional statement came about four months after Jackman and Foster went with public with their romance.
