Speculation is mounting that Channel Nine is set to axe a broadcasting icon’s award-winning show as part of the company’s brutal bloodletting.

Insiders have told the Daily Mail that the veteran reporter’s show, Under Investigation with Liz Hayes, was “under review” and would soon be axed as part of widespread budget cuts and redundancies.

Staff at the network told the Daily Mail they were shocked by the decision, which came in the wake of her being nominated for a Silver Logie for her role on the show.

“If that’s what they feel comfortable doing to Liz Hayes’ show, then nothing is out of bounds,” staff said.

“Liz is a Nine legend and the face of the network. To even consider killing off her show is just brutal — it means absolutely no one and nothing is safe.”

However, it is understood that despite her show being axed, Hayes will continue working at the network’s Sydney headquarters.
