Pop superstar Taylor Swift has turned back the clock, releasing a country-style pop song as part of the soundtrack for the new Toy Story 5 movie.
The track — called I Knew It, I Knew You — is a departure from the saccharine pop of her most recent album The Life of a Showgirl.
In fact, long-term fans of Swift may feel the single is more at home on older albums Red or Fearless.

“I knew you through the daze of the blades of the grass in the summer,” she sings.
“Parachutes for the free fall of being younger / I memorised the sound of your bare footsteps running wild / It’s been a long time / Life has ways of leaving those days behind / But seeing you tonight / I remembered I loved you.”
The song is written from the perspective of Jessie, the cowgirl rag doll who is also protagonist Woody’s love interest.
The pop megastar — who has reinvented herself and her musical style countless times — teased fans in the days leading up to the single dropping.
At one point she ran a one-off, 48-hour countdown on her website set against a backdrop of blue with white clouds in the sky— a tip of the hat to Andy’s bedroom wallpaper in the Toy Story franchise.
Around the world, billboards popped up featuring the initial TS in the Toy Story font. The background included 13 clouds, which is widely known as Swift’s favourite number.
There was heated debate online as to what the clues meant, and on June 2 Swift confirmed she would be releasing the single for Toy Story 5.
“You knew it! My new original song ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ for Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 will be yours on June 5th,” Swift said in a social media post.
The song dropped on Friday, with Swift saying it was a dream come true.
“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time,” she said.
“Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”
