Frontman Liam waved his finger in disapproval and said “naughty, naughty”, but the band played on.
If Liam appeared annoyed by the dangerous act, he removed any doubt on Saturday morning as he took to X to call out the fan responsible.
“To the massive C*** who launched that flare into the crowd last night at the gig in Melbourne you are 1 seriously f***ed up individual and you will get yours trust me,” he said.
Fans, however, didn’t seem bothered by the incident.
“I was reasonably close to the flare, but no one seemed worried at all. Everyone was too busy belting out the lyrics,” one concertgoer told 7NEWS.com.au.
Liam had started the show with an acknowledgment of the band’s long hiatus, two decades after Oasis last played in Australia.
“Are you all right? Did you miss us?” Liam asked. “We missed you too.”
Oasis opened their Down Under comeback with a pumped-up version of Hello from their blockbuster 1995 album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?.
A sea of punters in bucket hats and Premier League merchandise belted out the choruses to the likes of Bring It On Down and Slide Away as drizzly weather did little to quell revellers’ spirits.
Super fan Edward Gates, from Melbourne’s inner north, joined eager concertgoers early on Friday to nab a spot in the concert’s front row.
The 30-year-old has been a follower for more than a decade and had given up hope of ever seeing the brothers reunite.
“I truly just never thought that would happen. We are blessed. The stars have aligned,” he said.
Supporting act, Australian indie-rock band Ball Park Music, warmed up fans for the duo’s long-awaited stage return.
Australian fans have enjoyed a decades-long love affair with the Mancunian band with their mega hit Wonderwall taking the top spot in Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 1995.
That same year (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? spent four consecutive weeks at the top of the ARIA charts and 24 consecutive weeks in the top 10.
Oasis last performed in Australia in late 2005 as part of their Don’t Believe the Truth Tour.
In the decades since, the brothers’ feuds have made as many headlines as their music endeavours. In 2009, Noel quit the band following a backstage fight with his younger brother Liam as they were due to perform in Paris.
But it appears the hatchet has been buried as the band’s reunion tour rolls on without any bust-up talk thus far.
The Australian leg of the tour includes two further shows at Marvel Stadium on Saturday and Tuesday.
Oasis will then head to Sydney to perform at the Accor Stadium for shows on November 7 and 8.
