Snoop Dogg has caused mayhem in Melbourne ahead of his AFL grand final show, performing a warm-up gig in St Kilda and making a less-than-discreet visit to a bottle-shop.

The rap icon, who will headline the pre-game show on Saturday, wasted no time getting up to his usual antics, reportedly smoking a joint on-stage during a free show at The Esplanade Pub on Thursday night.

The venue announced the “DJ Snoopadelic” gig on Wednesday, causing fans to camp out from the early hours for the best view of the 53-year-old.

To a packed crowd, Snoop performed his biggest hits including Drop It Like It’s Hot and Gin And Juice while taking drags from a joint, which he reportedly shared with a fan at the end of his set.

In what is sure to be a contrast to the family-friendly set on Saturday, Snoop asked the crowd: “Where my motherf***ing ladies at?” as he promised to return to the home of football.

“This ain’t the last time you going to see a bad guy like this, I’ll be back in this motherf***er any time y’all want me to come back. Peace, love and Snoop,” he yelled to the crowd.

Earlier, Snoop was unmissable as he rolled into Richmond’s Swan Street in a Cadillac lowrider to drop into BWS.

In footage captured by podcasters The MacPack, Snoop casually strolled into the bottle-shop, emerging to take selfies with fans who quickly gathered outside.

Bizarrely, Hawthorn small forward Nick Watson was also filmed pulling up in a ute to visit the same bottle shop.

The visit was likely staged due to Snoop’s collaboration with wine label 19Crimes, which has enlisted him for a post-grand final gig on Saturday night.

At a media call on Thursday, Snoop Dogg said he was “honoured” to be chosen for the pre-game show.

“I know this is not just a sport. It is a way of life. I know it’s not just a team or a club. It is part of your DNA. So I understand what is at stake. I’m here to do my part and bring what I bring to the table,” he said.

AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon assured fans the show would be suitable for family viewing.

“He’s performed at the Olympics. He’s performed at the Super Bowl. I think the AFL grand final, he will suit that stage. I’ve always been confident he will put on a show. I’m even more confident now,” Dillon said.

“I know what songs he is going to play and I think they’ll be more than suitable for a family friendly audience.”

Tash Sultana will form part of Snoop Dogg’s band, while local support acts including Baker Boy, who performed at the 2021 grand final in Perth, will also return to the stage.
