Aussie action star Chris Hemsworth could have been forgiven for being pretty ‘Thor’ at the exquisite avenging he received at the hands of his fellow Marvel co-stars at the unveiling of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Hemsworth’s wife Elsa Pataky and their children India Rose and twins Sasha and Tristan were on hand to watch the former Home and Away actor’s impromptu roast at the hands of Robert Downey Jr, who passed on comical comments from their fellow The Avengers stars, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans.

Iron Man’s Downey Jr told the crowd, which also included Hemsworth’s parents Craig and Leonie, that he asked their co-stars from the super-hero franchise to describe the Thor star in three words.

“What is Chris Hemsworth?” Downey asked. “Renner says, ‘Absurdly, annoyingly amazing.’ Ruffalo came in strong with ‘friend from work’. Scarlett got to the heart of it with ‘sensitive leading lady’. Captain America (Evans) calls him ‘the second best Chris’,” Downey Jr said.

“And I’ll bring it to the here and now: There is no one who deserves it more. He is ‘Hollywood star recipient’.”

Downey Jr also noted Hemsworth’s Australian upbringing and his role in the latest Mad Max spin-off, Furiosa, which he predicted would become “the film of 2024”.

“Beyond the cape and the hammer is a contagious Aussie charm,” Downey Jr said.

“Chris is a bit daunting to describe. He’s very elusive because of the pretty packaging.

“However, upon further inspection ... down under ... he has a true wit and depth of soul and it has been my sincere pleasure to know you.

“You keep us Hollywood folk on our toes because you’re just a real deal.”

Hemsworth, 40, praised his family and friends as he became the 2781st recipient of a star on the famous boulevard.

“I feel a wonderful, profound sense of gratitude,” he told fans and paid tribute to his wife, Pataky.

“Nothing is as special without you by my side,” he told her.

Filmmaker George Miller - who worked with Hemsworth on Furiosa - described his countryman as a “wonderful person ... and actor”.

Born in Victoria, Hemsworth has risen to become one of Tinsel Town’s most bankable assets with his role as Thor.

He joins the likes of fellow Aussie stars Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett to be honoured by Hollywood’s Chamber of Commerce.
