“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” a statement at the time read.

“RJ Mitte was best known for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. on AMC’s critically acclaimed, award-winning series ‘Breaking Bad.’ Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.”

Mitte was also a proud ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.

Several of the actor’s Breaking Bad co-stars expressed their sadness over his sudden death, including his on-screen father Bryan Cranston.

“I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on Breaking Bad has died,” Cranston wrote in a regretful Instagram post.

“I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm.

“Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never – ever – allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything. He met the demanding shooting schedule head on with great determination.”

Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman on the hit show, said he was “heartbroken” by the news.

“RJ, I love you my friend. You will be missed,” he wrote.

News of the actor’s death came as Cranston and Paul prepare for their first ever Australian speaking tour dedicated to their time making the show.

The pair will appear on stage in Brisbane on January 15 next year, before heading to Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney.

According to local promoter Fane, “They will discuss everything Breaking Bad: the writing, the production’s long days, the mistakes, the danger, the scenes that cracked them up with laughter – and the ones that broke them up with despair.”
