The Simpsons, the long-running animated series beloved by millions, is once again making headlines, but this time it’s not for a controversial plot line or celebrity guest appearance.
Fans of the iconic show have taken to social media to express their astonishment over what they perceive as a significant change in the voice of one of its most memorable characters, Mr. Burns.
Since its inception in 1989, Mr. Burns, the quintessential villain and Homer Simpson’s miserly boss, has been voiced by Harry Shearer, now 80 years old.

One viewer took to X writing: “Burns’ voice is just brutal, man. Let these people retire in peace.”
Another perplexed fan wrote: “So @TheSimpsons, did the voice of Burns change, or am I hearing something wrong,” echoing the sentiments of many others who have noticed the apparent shift.
This speculation has ignited a flurry of online discussions, with fans sharing videos and comments expressing surprise, disappointment and concern.
One viewer uploaded a clip from a recent episode, remarking, “I know it’s inevitable with the age of the voice actors but Mr. Burns’ voice on the latest episode is really throwing me off.”
Others were more direct in their critique, with one fan admitting, “I promise you are not prepared for how atrocious Mr Burns’ voice sounds in this.”
Harry Shearer, a veteran voice actor who lends his talents to more than 20 characters on the show, including Ned Flanders and Principal Skinner, has yet to address these concerns publicly.
In response to inquiries regarding Shearer’s recent performance as Mr. Burns, a spokesperson for The Simpsons declined to provide comment when contacted by outlet CNN.
