That wily sorceress Emily Cooper is back.

It must be some kind of enchantment, right? Otherwise how could all the show’s characters be so blind to the fact she’s a bad person? It’s the explanation that makes sense.

The first trailer for the upcoming fifth season of Emily in Paris dropped overnight, teasing more European adventures for the clueless American social media “expert”.

When we last saw her, she had moved to Rome to head up the Italian outpost of Agence Grateau, the French marketing agency she works for in Paris. She had also started a new fling with Marcello.

That’s where we find Emily in season five, still in the Eternal City, and now seemingly joined by her French colleagues. One of them even wonders aloud, “If we are all here, who’s in Paris?”. Good question.

Although show creator Darren Star had previously insisted the series would not be renamed Emily in Rome. At some point, the gang will be back in the French capital, but not before they break hearts and saunter down the cobblestone streets of Rome.

There will also be a side-trip to Venice, with one of the images featuring Emily in a water taxi going down the Grand Canal.

The production was filming in Venice in August when one of its crew members, assistant director Diego Borella, 47, died at the famed Hotel Danieli. Italian publication La Repubblica reported Borella had collapsed in front of colleagues as they were preparing to film a scene.

The Venice scenes were the last block of filming for the fifth season. Series star Lily Collins posted on Instagram on August 27 celebrating the production wrap, but made no mention of Borella even though the assistant director had died that same week.

Emily in Paris season five will premiere on Netflix on December 18
