Luke Hemsworth is getting up close and personal with fierce predators: the crocodiles of the Northern Territory.
The oldest Hemsworth brother has joined the cast of Amazon Prime series Deadloch for its second season, which moved the action from the cool climes of Tasmania to the sweaty heat of the NT.
Hemsworth will play a character called Jason Wade, who owns a crocodiles and wildlife park and stars in the show-within-the-show, Jason Wade’s Adventures Down Under. Sounds ominous.

Hemsworth is best known for his role in sci-fi western series Westworld and has appeared in numerous films including Death of Me, Kill Me Three Times, Next Goal Wins and as the lead in the Australian drama Bosch & Rockit.
Deadloch creators Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan said in a statement they were “feeling very happy with ourselves about this because he’s perfect, it’s perfect casting”.
The second season of Deadloch finds odd-couple detectives Dulcie (Kate Box) and Eddie (Madeleine Sami) in Darwin after Eddie’s former police partner Bushy dies. Something isn’t quite right, especially after another dead body turns up.
Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner will reprise their roles with the story contriving reasons for their characters to also decamp up north.
The new setting does allow for a cast of new characters, to be portrayed by Shari Sebbens, Ursula Yovich, Steve Bisley, Jean Tong, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ngali Shaw, Genevieve Morris, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton and Damien Garvey.
The location is expected to be a big part of the second season. McLennan previously told The Nightly, “We’ve got these massive landscapes, the horizon just stretches on forever, a big sky with massive clouds that are threatening to drop rain but never do.
“Plus, having these mangroves and crocodiles, the humidity and the heat of that.
“We’re not creating a stylistically new show, but we are allowing the new location to inform the visuals for this new story.”
Deadloch season two received funding from NT and Queensland’s screen funding bodies.
