Patrick Brammall — has there ever been a more compelling shape-shifter on Australian screens? One minute he’s the jocular brewery owner with the wonky dog in Colin From Accounts, the next he’s popping up front and centre as Anne Hathaway’s love interest in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

In Last Seen, an Apple TV drama headed to screens this week, Brammall plays alcoholic ex-detective Ian Ridley, a desperate dad on the search for his abducted daughter — I mean, talk about versatility.

Ian is working as a dispatcher at the local 000 call centre when a frantic call comes through from a young girl he suspects may be his missing child from a decade earlier.

Her call precipitates a frantic search for answers, a journey which threatens to unseat Ian’s already precarious grip on reality and further rock his unsteady life. It’s shaping up to be a wild ride.

Unfortunately I can’t tell you more as there’s an embargo in place, but it’s not hard to imagine this propulsive homegrown thriller — which also stars Brendan Cowell, who is reliably excellent in everything — will find an audience right around the globe, further propelling Brammall to greater career heights.

This latest move into heavy dramatic territory will likely mean we’ll see less of the types of characters that launched Brammall to fame — the deadbeat brother in The Moodys, the inept stake-out detective in No Activity — but that’s OK. I like the idea that we might just have found our next Liam Neeson-shaped action hero.

Can’t wait for you to see this one.

The Grand Tour

I was inspired to check this out by clips posted online by social media trainspotter Francis Bourgeois — he’s that hilariously geeky young chap who loses his mind over locomotives. He’s one of three new co-hosts, including Thomas Holland and James Engelsman.

These three have massive shoes to fill — they’re taking over from Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond — but their enthusiasm and obvious love for cars is contagious.

Real talk: I’ll watch anything Francis is in, so I’m fully onboard for this.

Outdoor adventurer and award-winning restaurateur Mario Kalpou is “earning every single bite the hard way” in this cooking/adventure series, which sees him venturing to some wild and dangerous locations all in the name of a feed.

Call My Agent: The Movie

Thursday, streaming on Netflix

This great French series is back with a film, which sees the original cast reprising their roles five years on. If you’ve not seen this, you’ve got plenty of episodes to get through before peeping the film. Keep an eye out for killer celeb cameos.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives

Thursday, streaming on Disney Plus

Watch your IQ diminish in real time as you settle in for the fifth season of this insane reality series. Taylor’s back from her (failed) stint on The Bachelorette, so you know there will be drama. Hate that I love this show.
