“First off, we know you lived in Los Angeles. You have family and friends there. How are they doing after the fires?” Shirvington asked Banks.

“Some are doing OK, some are not doing so great,” Banks said.

“You know some people who have lost their house?” Barr asked.

“I’m one of them. I haven’t wanted to talk about it but, yes, I lost my house. I didn’t want to bring that attention to me, because a lot of people lost their house, but yes, I did.”

Banks said she was in Australia when she received the news she had lost her home.

“We were at a friend’s house here. We were celebrating and just having fun. I kept checking my phone, not for my house, but for friends and family.

“I was just making sure they were evacuating and everything. Then, I asked my partner, ‘I’m seeing something here. What do you think? (Has our own house gone?)‘.

“(I realised it had) I pulled it together. I didn’t say anything to my friends. I just stayed in that moment. Then we went home and we cried. We had our moment.”

“You lost everything in your house?” Barr asked.

“Yes, our house, we brought a lot of things here. We’re between here and New York, so a lot of those (serious) mementoes are here and in New York. So, I didn’t lose those thank goodness.

“But yeah, it’s tough.”

“We’re so sorry to hear that,” Shirvo said.

Banks owned a $US4.7 ($A7.58) million home in Malibu which she purchased in 2021, according to the New York Post. Malibu was one of LA’s most fire-ravaged neighbourhoods.

However, the supermodel did not say whether this was the property affected.

Banks is currently living in Australia as she focuses on her newly established ice cream brand in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Banks has founded SMiZE Cream, a premium ice cream brand that includes a hidden “smize” (a surprise treat) in every cup.

Her visit came as Los Angeles began fighting the most devastating wildfires in its history on January 7, with at least 27 people killed in the blazes.

Some of the city’s wealthiest areas, including Pacific Palisades, close to Malibu, were also hit with 14,600 structures destroyed, according to NBC.

At one point there were close to 200,000 people under evacuation orders as crews battled the fires.

The insured losses from last week’s fires may exceed $20 billion, and total economic losses could reach $50 billion, according to estimates published by JPMorgan on Thursday.
