The Rookie season eight Australian release date on 7plus and Seven revealed
Fans of The Rookie have been waiting for the return of their favourite show. They won’t have to wait that much longer.
Popular police procedural The Rookie will return with its eighth season in two weeks’ time on June 8.
That’s great news for all the fans of the series – and there are legion – who’ve been waiting to hang out again with Nolan, Lucy, Tom and the gang in blue. Start that countdown now, because 14 days will mark itself down so quickly.
The series, returning to 7plus and the Seven broadcast channel, will kick off with an international quest as Nolan (Nathan Fillion), Nyla (Mekia Cox), Bailey (Jenna Dewan) and FBI agent Matt Garza (Felix Solis) find themselves in Prague for an operation to take down a terrorist network with the strings-attached help of recurring antagonist Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan).

Stateside, Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim (Eric Winter) are moving in together, another crucial step in the slow-burn “Chenford” coupling that The Rookie fans were shipping online before it became canonical.

The cast also includes Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Wade Grey, Lisseth Chavez and Derec Augustine.
The 18-episode eighth season recently wrapped up its US broadcast, and has already been renewed for a ninth instalment.
The Rookie has quietly become a popular, cross-demographic show, and, according to Seven, attracted 6.9 million Australian viewers during its seventh season. It is the highest rated American series on 7plus.
Fillion said at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) last year that the show’s exposure has one downside, which is filming on location can be more disruptive.
“It’s been a double-edged sword, our is show is becoming very popular in Los Angeles,” he said during the show’s panel on stage. “It is an added extra challenge that people driving by in a car will scream, ‘We love The Rookie!’ and (it’s) ‘Cut! Go back to the beginning’.
“I’ll take it though.”
Of course, an international fan base does have its benefits, such as that Prague storyline.

“When I first said, ‘Hey, I want to go to Prague for season eight’, I got some looks, because that’s not a normal network television thing to do,” Fillion told SDCC. “But I’m like, we can absorb it, because we’ve gotten really good at making the show.
“I’ve said this, it felt like we were making Casino Royale.”
Even in Czechia, the fans were swarming. The Rookie creator and show runner Alexi Hawley told Deadline, “For me, being in Prague really brought me face-to-face with how popular the show is, especially internationally.
“People came from other countries to set, they lined up everywhere we shot on location – they were three or four (people) deep. They were lined up outside the hotel. Just watching how passionate people were was really rewarding.”
The Rookie season eight starts on 7plus and Seven from June 8
