Home and Away’s newest star Rocco Forrester-Sach grew up in the picturesque New South Wales surf town of Ulladulla — he’s no stranger to the beach.

Needless to say, he feels right at home on the sunny shores of Summer Bay.

“I love filming on Palm Beach,” the 24 year-old star, who joined the long-running soap as enthusiastic rookie cop Richie Brezniak in April this year, said.

“After we wrap (shooting), I can go straight into the water for a swim — it’s one of the greatest things about the job.

“The wardrobe ladies are so fantastic: one day they travelled to set with a pair of boardies and a towel for me, so that when we finished I was in the water within five minutes.

“It was so good.”

Life might be a breeze off-set, but while the cameras are rolling, it’s a whole other story for the young actor.

Forrester-Sach is currently at the centre of one of Home and Away’s biggest emerging storylines.

Earlier this month, viewers discovered that one Summer Bay favourite will be shot by the young police officer, but audiences are still in the dark as to who that person might be.

Later this week they will find out, but not before further dramatic events unfold while Forrester-Sach’s character is investigating Summer Bay’s recent spate of crimes.

“He’s super enthusiastic, and as the crime wave escalates, Richie’s passion and need to solve the case — and his need to prove himself — comes through,” he said.

“He’s following a lead when things take a turn for the worst, and things go down and down from there.”

Richie accidentally shoots someone, with their life lies hanging in the balance.

“In the aftermath he is mortified and shocked when he realises what has happened,” he said.

“By the point it has happened, it is irreversible and the damage is done.

“As much as he wants to make it right, it might not be possible for him.

“When a life is on the line, even if a person pulls through, I think the fallout follows that person for a long time.

“He has got a lot of ground to pave to try to prove to people that he is a good guy.”

Forrester-Sach says he is thoroughly enjoying his time on the well-loved show, particularly relishing the opportunity to “play pretend” as the rookie cop.

”I don’t think I will ever be a cop — I think I have chosen my career,” he said.

“So I would probably never be in that situation, or be in the uniform, or even ever hold a gun, I hope.

“So it is so exciting, and so wonderful as an actor to be able to be put in these high stakes situations, where I can really feel it.

“It is such a lot of fun.

“It’s like ‘my inner child’ is running rampant.”

Filming a recent car chase scene was a particular highlight.

“I got to be in a cop car, and it is like, I’m a 12 year old again, and I am out the back with my brother and we have sticks and we are shooting each other.

“When you think about it, it’s all just play, but this is on a bigger scale, and there is some money behind it, so instead of sticks, we are using pretend guns.

“It’s a great time, every time.”

Home and Away airs Monday to Thursday at 7pm on Seven and 7Plus.
