Global hitmaker Rihanna has blasted social media trolls after endorsing Kamala Harris in a tongue-in-cheek video.

Just hours before the closure of some polls across the US, Rihanna took to Instagram to announce her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris and encourage Americans to vote.

In a video shared with her 150 million followers, Rihanna joked that she would sneak into the polls to vote as she does not have US citizenship — but her young sons Rza and Riot do.

“POV: me trying to sneak into the polls with my son’s passport #votebecauseican’t,” she wrote.

The post was captioned: “When protecting p***ies and firing p***ies can happen all in one vote #votecauseicant #TanSuitSeason.”

According to Teen Vogue, her post was meant to be a joke but the Barbadian-born star appeared to ruffle a few feathers, with fired-up social media users unleashing their vexation in the comments section.

“Illegal voting is a crime. Maybe she should be arrested for trying,” one user wrote.

But Rihanna was quick to bite back, replying: “Shut up Karen.”

Another user wrote: “(I) voted for closed borders, deportations and staying out of foreign conflicts. Abortions are probably nowhere near as important as y’all are making it seem.”

In a fiery reply, Rihanna said: “You’re f***ed! And so is the America you dream of. Hope you don’t have to find out the hard way.”

One user poked the star again, asking: “Why should you be able to (vote) if you are not a legal citizen?”

The 36-year-old responded: “Ew! Hate an illiterate a** h**.”

However, Rihanna is not the only celebrity to publicly endorse the Vice President.

Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Oprah Winfrey and Mick Jagger have also spoken out in support of Ms Harris.
