‘$20k for a dog? You’re out of your mind’: Aussie couple launch GoFundMe to help re-home Bali rescue puppy
The couple set up a GoFundMe page to help raise the eye-watering sum, claiming the pup had become part of the family and that they couldn’t leave her behind.
A young Aussie couple have come under fire, after asking the public to help raise $20,000 to relocate a dog they rescued in Bali.
Sunshine Coast local Madelynn Davey found the puppy scavenging for food on the side of the road on the Indonesian island while living there with her boyfriend, but has since had to part ways with her beloved pooch since moving back to Australia.
Setting up a GoFundMe page, the 27-year-old said the rescue pup, who they named Sadie, had become part of the family and that they couldn’t leave her behind.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.“We found Sadie when she was just a tiny puppy living on the streets. She was little, hungry, and needed someone. I couldn’t leave her there knowing she had no real safety, no home, and no one properly looking out for her,” Ms Davey wrote on the GoFundMe page.
She continued: “From that moment, she became part of our life. Right now, Sadie is safe and being cared for, but she is still not home.”
The couple says they are facing one of the world’s toughest and most expensive pet relocation processes to be reunited with Sadie.
The lengthy process includes vaccinations, microchipping, blood and parasite testing, extensive paperwork, cargo flights and six months’ quarantine in Singapore to ensure Sadie is free from disease before entering Australia.
For now, Sadie is still in Indonesia, currently staying with a private trainer who’s looking after her.
While the couple recognise that the process is extremely lengthy and costly, they are determined not to let it deter them from bringing Sadie home.
“I am working, saving, and doing everything I can to make this happen,” Ms Davey continued.
“Sadie is my responsibility, and I will keep doing my part and building a better life for her. But this is a huge amount of money, and any help would make a real difference in getting her home sooner.
“Even a small donation helps bring Sadie one step closer to Australia. One step closer to the life she deserves”.
After sharing her story on TikTok, many were quick to comment that Sadie is “just a dog” and millions of others need homes, with an estimated 700,000 stray dogs in Bali alone.
“Can’t you just get a new dog? It would be cheaper,” one wrote.
“Queen, 20k, are you crazy?” another said.
“$20k for a dog? You are out of your mind,” a third added.
But others are supportive of the couples decision, with over fifty people donating, totalling a sum of nearly $2,500.
