Most of the celebrities who walked the iconic Met Museum stairs for the annual Met Gala took the dress code Fashion is Art to the next level.

The theme Costume Art tied into the dress code and was all about celebrating the human body and how fashion can be seen as art.

It was the perfect opportunity for celebrities and their creative teams to really think outside the box and delve into their imagination to come up with looks that honour the theme in a special way.

A memorable moment and fashion highlight of the night was, of course, Beyonce returning to the Met after 10 years, flanked by her husband Jay-Z and their daughter Blue Ivy.

Queen B told La La Anthony in an interview for Vogue that being at the Met Gala again was a “surreal” experience.

“It’s surreal because my daughter is here, she looks so beautiful, and it’s incredible to be able to share it with her,” she said.

“Blue is ready.”

The Kardashian-Jenner clan also made what is always a jaw-dropping entry with Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner coordinating looks that drew attention to their figures — but matriarch Kris Jenner seems to have missed that memo, arriving in a flowy kimono.

Madonna cleared the steps with her dramatic entrance, where seven ladies in waiting assisted with her outfit and SZA demanded attention in bold yellow.

Meanwhile, Doechii attended the event barefoot, Katy Perry concealed her face with a mask and Heidi Klum embodied a statue — no surprises there.

There was also a strong representation of Aussies walking the red carpet with Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Troye Sivan, Miranda Kerr and Rose all posing up a storm.

Kidman was there with her daughter Sunday — who made her Met debut — and they made for an eye-catching pair in red and pink.

When La La Anthony asked what inspired their looks, Kidman replied: “Fashion is art”.

“I wanted something red, I wanted to embrace the way red has been used in art over the years. It’s a strong symbol of love, passion, power and motherhood.”

Sunday wanted to represent “spring time” and “blossoming” into her first Met.

“She’s been so calm, she has to go to school tomorrow morning by 8am, just keeping it real,” Kidman said.

Perth’s Sivan told Vogue live stream co-hosts Ashley Graham and Cara Delevinge that his outfit was inspired by New York in the late 1980s and 1990s.

His getting ready routine involved “having a glass of champagne and calling it a day”.
