A non-alcohol grapefruit mixer sold nationwide at liquor stores and supermarkets has been recalled over “unintended fermentation” inside the bottle.

The pressure this can create inside the impacted bottles of Salted Grapefruit by Strangelove could lead them to explode and cause injury.

The process of fermentation also converts sugars into alcohol, which can additionally cause illness in consumers.

The 180ml and 540ml bottles were sold at Coles, Woolworths and independent retailers, as well as Dan Murphy’s, BWS, First Choice, Liquorland and Vintage Cellars, the recall said.

“Food products containing excess carbonation may result in bottle breakage or popping caps,” it said.

The 180ml bottles potentially affected by the unintended fermentation will display one of the two “best before” date markings: 23/05/2026, 31/07/2026.

And the 540ml bottles included in the recall will display one of the following: 05/01/2026, 09/02/2026, 19/03/2026, 04/05/2026, 29/05/2026.

“Consumers should not drink or open this product and should dispose of it safely,” the recall said.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.

“Please contact StrangeLove Beverages for safe disposal instructions and reimbursement.”
