The Lottery Office’s head of customer support Rachel Lane on Thursday told Sunrise the jackpot could soon be claimed after weeks without a winner.
“It’s got to be drawn any day now, and we hope today is the day,” she said.
Lane said an Australian winner would make lottery history, with the prospect of hundreds of millions of dollars going to a local player.
To claim the jackpot, players must match five main numbers and one Powerball number.

2026’s luckiest numbers
Lane also revealed the luckiest numbers drawn so far in 2026, with 64, 21, 42 and 58 topping the list of main numbers, while 14, 10, 3 and 23 were the most frequently drawn Powerball numbers.
The Lottery Office representative said players could take different approaches when choosing their numbers, either opting for those that had already appeared or picking numbers they believed were due to come up.
The next draw is expected to take place around lunchtime, with Australians eagerly awaiting the result.
