Hyundai Australia has recalled almost 10,000 examples of its iLoad van and iMax people movers after a defect was found in the vehicles that could lead to fire.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the outer sheath of the electrical cable connecting the fuse box and alternator may deteriorate and cause the wiring to expose,” the carmaker said in a recall notice.

“This may lead to a short circuit resulting in a vehicle fire.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

A total of 9826 iLoad and iMax vehicles built between 2016 and 2018 are affected by the recall.

Hyundai Australia has compiled a list of Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) affected by the defect. A spreadsheet of the list is attached here.

“Owners of affected vehicles will be notified in writing and owners will need to schedule with an authorised Hyundai Dealer to have the electrical cable replaced, free of charge,” the notice read.
