Security cameras have captured the terrifying moment that a miniature shnauzer named Chloe had to be rescued from drowning in her owner’s backyard multiple times.
Shannon Tremaine and her dad Vincent had to quickly snap into lifeguard-mode when their beloved pet’s curiosity about its new backyard in Adelaide nearly turned into a tragedy.
Tremaine described in an Instagram post that it was the first time Chloe had explored her Dad’s backyard and can be heard in the video voicing her concerns as she opens the backyard gate.

Seconds later, Chloe slips off the side of the pool and splashes into the water, but instead of swimming to safety she starts swimming down, then in somersaults causing Tremaine to dive in fully-clothed to save her.
“Well there you go,” Vincent says, while casually eating a bowl of cereal.
While her father dries Chloe off with a towel, Tremaine snaps some pictures of Chloe, thinking that the panic is over but the miniature schnauzer hadn’t finished with her pool plunges.
“Now she recognises that it’s a pool...” Tremaine starts saying before Chloe runs up to her and slips into the pool again.
The much-loved pet repeats it’s bizarre swimming behaviour, paddling towards the bottom of the pool and Tremaine jumps in to the rescue again bring Chloe to safety.
The video has gone viral and has been viewed by over one million people on Instagram, many commenting on Chloe’s unique swimming abilities.
“I’ve never seen a dog swim so badly in my entire life it’s actually terrifying,” one person wrote.
“That dog has like no survival instincts - because tell me why it started doing synchronised swimming under water????” another commented.
After the clip went viral, Tremaine has posted a heart-warming explainer video on her Instagram to answer the internet’s most-asked questions while Chloe sits happily beside her.
Chloe was diagnosed with vestibular disease last year and Ms Tremaine believes this has affected her ability to swim as it impacts her balance under water.
In mock-style interview with Chloe, Tremaine asks her what she says to everyone that says she should never have explored the backyard?
“I’d rather fall into a million pools than never know what’s beyond the gate,” an artificial voice replies, mimicking the dog’s opinion.
The clip also reveals that Chloe was diagnosed with vestibular disease last year and Ms Tremaine believes this has affected her ability to swim as it impacts her balance under water.
“She won’t ever be allowed in the pool area again, and we’ve had a family meeting about never propping the gate open,” Tremaine said on Instagram.
