Brad Pitt adds $18 million Hollywood Hills home to extensive property portfolio

Hollywood star Brad Pitt has added a $12 million (AUD $18.4 million) Spanish-style estate to his extensive property portfolio.
The F1 star purchased the home from lead guitarist for The Killers, Dave Keuning, and his wife, interior designer Emilie Keuning, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The Keunings purchased the home in 2021 for around $9.6 million (AUD $14.7 million) from Joel Simkhai, founder of hook-up app Grindr.

A source told the New York Post that Pitt purchased the property due to security concerns after a burglary at his mid-century home, also located in Los Angeles.
"He wanted somewhere that could provide an optimal security system and privacy and this place caught his eye," the article reported. "Long before his home was burglarised, security was always a priority."

The property is located in Outpost Estates, an exclusive enclave in the Hollywood Hills that has been a popular spot for celebrities - Ben Affleck and Orlando Bloom are among its past residents.
In response to Pitt's safety concerns, the 778-square-metres property is protected by security gates and mature landscaping, and comes prewired for alarm systems.

Built around 1989, the spacious home features six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and a theatre room.
Grand architectural details include arched hallways, exposed wooden beams, soaring double-height ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

The resort-style outdoor spaces feature a swimming pool, established vegetable gardens, fire-pit lounge area for late night star-gazing and views of the ocean.
Known as an architecture aficionado among real estate circles, Pitt has purchased multiple architecturally significant properties.

In 2023, Pitt bought Steel House, an architecturally-designed midcentury-modern home in a secret off-market deal with oil heiress Aileen Getty.
In the private deal, Pitt was reported to have paid $5.5 million (AUD $8.3 million) for the Los Feliz home, days after he sold Getty his own Los Feliz home for $33 million (AUD $50 million).
The L-shaped home was designed by architect Neil M. Johnson in 1960 and features floor-to-ceiling windows, cantilevered roofline and terrazzo floors.

Pitt made another significant off-market purchase in 2022 when he purchased the iconic D.L. James House in Carmel Highlands for a record-breaking $40 million (AUD $60.6 million).
Built by Charles Sumner Greene around 1918, the stone home is perched on a rocky seaside bluff with unobstructed ocean views.
During his marriage to Friends star Jennifer Anniston, Pitt bought Goleta Beach House in Santa Barbara for $4 million (AUD $6 million).

His largest real estate holding is Château Miraval, a 1,200-acre estate and winery in Correns that he purchased with then wife Angelina Jolie in 2012 for $60 million (AUD $91 million).
Pitt also owns a collection of commercial properties in Los Angeles's Frogtown neighbourhood.
