Sydney's famous "Copper House" in Newport has smashed a long-standing Northern Beaches record, selling for $17.5 million, the highest price ever achieved for a beachfront home between Freshwater and Whale Beach.

The current median sale price for Newport, NSW, is $3,135,000, according to View.com.au data.

Houses with four bedrooms typically sell for between $2.37 million and $7 million. The market has seen an annual growth of 13.7%, with properties spending an average of 57 days on the market.

The architecturally acclaimed residence at 7 Myola Road, designed by internationally recognised architect Peter Stutchbury, was snapped up within just 30 days of hitting the market.

It won the prestigious Master Builders Association Award for Best Use of Metal 2007.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home, positioned directly on Newport Beach, drew intense interest from prestige buyers seeking a rare absolute-beachfront address.

Ray White Northern Beaches agent Emma Blake said the final sale price exceeded the $15.5m-$17m guide, driven by strong competition from both eastern suburbs and local downsizers.

"The property generated extraordinary interest from both eastern suburbs and local buyers, predominantly empty nesters seeking a stunning retreat where families could gather on weekends and holidays," Ms Blake said.

She said the architectural pedigree and its "once-in-a-lifetime" beachfront position were what pushed buyers into action.

"We leveraged social media extensively to showcase this very striking home, and it resonated strongly with the market, it really created a buzz."

The record-breaking sale cements the Northern Beaches' status as one of Sydney's most tightly held prestige coastal enclaves, where architecturally distinguished beachfront homes continue to command a significant premium.

The seller, Andrew Moore, said locals had long referred to the residence as the "Copper House" due to its bold use of materials such as copper, bronze, concrete, timber and glass.

Built by Bellevarde Constructions in 2006, the home reportedly cost more than $7 million to construct.

Moore lived there with his wife Jo and their two sons for six years, and said the home's connection to the coastline was incomparable.

"You can lie in bed and literally watch the surf at Newport peak," he said. "It's just beachfront living at its best."

He added that the home had become a gathering place for family and friends.

"It's a house where people love to drop in. We've had many impromptu visitors and parties over the years."
