Fashion designer Camilla Franks picks up $7.65 million for flamboyant Woollahra home: ‘Villa Camilla’

The home of internationally renowned Australian fashion design Camilla Franks has sold for $7.65 million.

The property, in the upmarket Sydney suburb of Woollahra, was on the market for around six weeks and drew big numbers at open for inspections before the Sold sign went up.

Selling agent Randall Kemp of Ray White Woollahra, said there were “some stickybeaks” along with serious buyers who came to see the vividly decorated home.

The property was co-listed with Alexander Phillips of PPD Real Estate.

It was a good result for the designer who bought the property in 2016 for $3.868 million.

However it has undergone a complete overhaul since then.

The designer, who made her name through her vibrant kaftan and clothing and now has a label that includes everything from homewares to kids clothes, had put her mark on the five-bedroom, three-bathroom home.

Nicknamed “Villa Camilla” it features striking wallpaper throughout rooms in the generous home, including the bedrooms which all feature Camilla print wallpaper.

The nineteenth century home retained classic period features as well including marble fireplaces in the living areas.

Mr Kemp said the distinctive interiors were a drawcard for some buyers.

“Some people saw it, loved it and didn’t want to change a thing, while others were looking to redo it in a more neutral way,” he said.

The sale comes after he has made an upgrade to a $12.5 million in the beachside suburb of Bondi.

The property, named Gnal Loa, is one of the few remaining homes on a large land holding in the suburb.
