Rich pickings: The Australian houses for $30 million and more
As house-prices around the country continue to pick up, the very top end of the market is hitting the stratosphere.
In the past few months, record prices have been smashed as tens of millions have changed hands, while some properties still on the market are tipped to topple current suburb price-records.
We’ve rounded up some of the highest-priced pads recently sold or listed for sale - from Perth’s Mosman Park to Point Piper in Sydney.

The nearly 100-year-old mansion formerly owned by the trucking magnate Lindsay Fox’s family sold in December last year to an undisclosed buyer, reportedly for $80 million. The Hollywood-esque home has been the scene of glamorous parties and even served as the set for Mission Impossible 2 starring Tom Cruise.

Listed by brothers Catcha Group chairman Patrick Grove and Blowfish Studios co-founder Aaron Grove in May last year, the home is still on the market with a reported price-guide of $70 million. It has sweeping harbour views, five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a gym and infinity pool and two rooftop gardens.

Retail Apparel Group (the company behind clothing store Tarocash) owner Stephen Leibowitz and his wife Pam recently listed their grand home with a reported $65 million price guide. It has city, Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge views and was designed by architect Leslie Wilkinson and updated by Michael Suttor.

The sprawling estate once comprising three separate houses came onto the market late last year and is still waiting for a buyer to meet the reported price-guide of $50 million. The current owners remodelled the home a decade ago, and it now features two swimming pools, a squash court and its own private jetty.

Five AM yoghurt founder David Prior recently sold his mansion in Melbourne’s most expensive suburb for a reported $40 million - almost double what he paid for it in 2014 ($23.3 million). The stately property includes a tennis court and a grand, circular driveway.

The Brighton price record was smashed in December last year with the $40 million sale of this 4500sqm property. The century-old home was advertised as a renovation or knock-down rebuild opportunity, making its record-breaking price tag all the more eye-watering.

There aren’t too many homes that go for more than $30 million in Perth, but if this one does it could become one of the most expensive homes sold to date in the West Australian capital. Investment banker Clayton Freind and his wife Annelise knocked down the original home after they bought it in 2007. The rebuilt house features mod-cons including underfloor heating and home automation, and has panoramic views of the Swan River.
