ALDI announces surprise move into travel industry with international escapes, cruises and tour deals

Tips to save thousands on your Christmas holiday travel plans as ALDI becomes the latest place to secure cheap travel deals.

Not only can you buy groceries, award-winning wine and miscellaneous items from the middle aisle, you can now also book your next holiday through the supermarket after ALDI announced a surprise move into the travel industry.

From Wednesday, October 2, Australian shoppers will be able to plan their next vacation with a suite of exclusive ALDI escapes, cruises and tour deals.

The move comes just months after ALDI entered the insurance sector, which includes policies for home and contents insurance, comprehensive car insurance and landlord’s insurance.

“We are excited to be taking off in a new direction to make planning and booking a holiday a more enjoyable experience for Australians and in our signature, Good Different way with ALDI Holidays,” ALDI Australia group director, Rodney Balech, said.

“With ALDI Holidays, we’re bringing our Special Buys to the skies, offering savvy travellers premium holiday options. From budget-friendly bliss to extravagant escapes, there are different levels of luxury for every keen explorer.”

ALDI has partnered with Australian travel advertisers Ignite Travel, and in a similar way to ALDI’s bi-weekly Special Buys, there will be a limited number of exclusive holiday deals, which will be available until sold out.

Undercover shoppers sent out by consumer group Choice have confirmed what many Australians have long known, Aldi is cheaper than Coles and Woolworths.

“ALDI Holiday customers can expect incredible savings with these exclusively curated holiday packages including flights, local experiences and more, covering some of the most popular destinations around the world, that can conveniently be booked online or via the dedicated ALDI Holidays Sales Centre,” Ignite Travel Group CEO Ryan Thomas said.

“Whilst the collaboration also aligns to our goal to support and grow our supplier channels to deliver an unparalleled distribution network for our partners where everyone wins. We’re excited about the future of our partnership with ALDI.”

ALDI Holidays said it offered customisable options from preferred airlines and departures airports across Australia, as well as adjustable lengths of stay and room upgrades.

Some holiday escapes available from Wednesday include five nights on Daydream Island Resort from $899 per person twin share and seven nights in the Outrigger Resort, Fiji from $1799 per person twin share.

Overseas getaways include six nights at Waikiki Beach Marriott, Hawaii from $2399 per person twin share and six nights at the Grand Mirage, Bali from $1199 per person, twin share.

Tours include a 10-day Best of South Africa from $3990 per person twin share or a 15 Day European Odyssey from $4590 per person.

Those more interested in a cruise can get nine nights Royal Caribbean Cruise through the Pacific Islands from $1499 per person twin share or a 14-night Celebrity X Cruise through Japan from $4990 per person twin share.
