Asher Keddie explores newfound fondness for Indonesia
Fresh from the AACTA Awards, actress Asher Keddie explores her newfound fondness for Indonesia.

Let’s be honest – for years now Australian television has relied on actress Asher Keddie to make the domestic small screen watchable.
And in a culture still suspicious of women who think faster than the men around them, Keddie’s made a career out of not slowing down – from a child star to Love My Way’s faultless Julia Jackson, her Logie-winning ways as Offspring’s Nina Proudman with further acclaim (and awards) aboard Nine Perfect Strangers, Fake and as publisher Ita Buttrose in Paper Giants.
An AACTA Awards nominee for comedy series Strife this week, the 51-year-old has also scored herself an impressive new role as L’Oreal Paris ambassador.
Still, for the near 40 years she’s spent in the public eye and acting across screens and stage, Keddie’s only recently lent into the regenerative and welcome ways of a proper reset. It’s a realisation that’s seen her return to Bali every year for the past six — where she claims The Legian in Seminyak as a prized property.

“I’ve found my place in Indonesia and Bali is such a special place — it can be a very therapeutic experience to go there.
The Legian came recommended time and again over the years and now it’s the place I go to in Bali.
It really ticks all the boxes for me when it comes to recuperation and relaxation — it’s my absolute go-to for wellness. And whenever I finish a shoot, I’m known to book a flight and go to straight there.
It’s not just the destination I find relaxing — it’s a great hotel to wind down. I’m all about the wellness spa facilities on site, it’s my idea of heaven. The treatments are tailored to you, and they’re very experienced at what they do.

Sleep is everything to me, so the moment I get to The Legian, I really go inward first for outward beauty.
I do love an all-inclusive experience at a wellness spa too — the steam room, sauna, facials tailored to my skin, body treatments that leave you feeling amazing. It’s the perfect way to fill my cup after a busy work schedule.
I’d be lying if I didn’t acknowledge that escapism is part of the appeal of travel. I like to escape somewhere different and be ensconced in a different culture that allows my mind to be inspired again. I get so much clarity and growth from travel.
I get a lot out of travel — my mind expands, my body relaxes, everything sort of comes into alignment again.”
