We all have a natural affinity to a specific type of holiday, whether that’s putting our feet up and sunbathing by a pool or hiking to Machu Picchu.

Humans are a diverse species, therefore the way we travel differs immensely between individuals, cultures and (you guessed it) zodiac signs.

A new perspective on travelling the world can be accessed by assessing one’s astrological birth chart and the plethora of information it shows us about ourselves.

Here’s some insight into how embracing our sun sign’s characteristics can enhance our travel choices, according to trip categories.

For cultural immersion

A holiday rich with diverse cultural experiences is well suited to the earth signs of Virgo and Capricorn. Virgos crave intellectual stimulation while travelling and Capricorns can often find it difficult to switch off, making Vietnam the ideal destination for its multitude of offerings — from the Museum of Cham Sculpture in Da Nang, once the centre of the ancient Cham civilisation, to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed merchant town of Hoi An.

For foodies

A culinary quest of the ages is a mission befitting those who seek to indulge, such as the epicurean Taurus and the adventurous Aries. Taureans are no stranger to a deluxe feast, nor Aries partial to trying new local delicacies. As such, a travel expedition to Denmark is encouraged. The Scandinavian country is the home of New Nordic cuisine and has long been a gastronomic destination. The “world’s best restaurant” Noma, based in Copenhagen, will be shutting its doors in 2025 and we suggest eager travelling foodies do not hesitate in booking their reservation.

For big-city thrills

Big city-themed holidays are often synonymous with capitals such as New York City, London or Hong Kong. But look no further than Berlin, Germany, for an ultimate city trip offering a plethora of vibrant activities Geminis and Sagittarians can sink their teeth into. Both zodiac signs thrive in busy, urban environments due to their high energy levels and enthusiasm. To their delight, there’s a dizzying amount of options available to keen travellers, including Mauerpark flea market and Liquidrom spa that plays techno underwater, not to mention the bustling nightclub scene.

For moments on the water

A luxury cruise, a beach-side resort or a lake-view cabin are all prime examples of an A+ travel experience for the water signs of Scorpio and Pisces. The passion and new-age spiritual nature of these zodiacs make them inclined to embark on adventures that will fill their cup, fill their soul and fill their fantasies. A noteworthy experience worth contemplating would be Swan Hellenic’s Explore and Restore cruise with Indian-American author and spiritual teacher Deepak Chopra, featuring meditation, yoga and Ayurvedic culinary offerings.

For relaxing retreats

The blissful type of holiday where you forget what time it is because the very concept dissolves into irrelevance is just the bed that air signs want to make and sleep in. Aquarians and Librans will breeze through the holiday without a worry and they wouldn’t want it any other way. A retreat-style trip is best suited to these zodiacs, such as a stay at Six Senses Douro Valley in Portugal at their expert-led wellness retreats.

For nomadic adventures

The wonderfully wanderlust-stricken seek travels that can go from a bustling inner-city market one minute to a rainforest the next. These kinds of trips aren’t for the faint-hearted or regimented, but the spontaneous and brave. For dynamic Leos and nurturing Cancers, this is the travel sweet spot. Bhutan is an excellent choice for open-minded nature lovers, with activities such as trekking the Jomolhari or Druk Path or visiting the world-famous Tiger’s Nest monastery Paro Taktsang. And if your adventurous thirst isn’t yet quenched, head south to India.
